Honouring King Lewanika in an Inaugural Memorial Lecture - 14 July 2016

The Lecture was presented by Prince Akashambatwa Mbikusita-Lewanika who is the grandson of ‘King Lewanika the First and a son of Litunga (King) Lewanika the Second, whose personal name was Mbikusita Lewanika.  The presenter’s father, apart from being the last son of King Lewanika on the Barotse throne, was also the Founder President General of the Northern Rhodesia African Congress in 1948.’ This brings to the fore the varied and significant roles of one of several African kings whole leadership and impact underscores both the multi-national and traditional African roots of the southern African struggle

When the history of our struggle is written, it will tell a glorious tale of African solidarity, of African's adherence to principles. It will tell a moving story of the sacrifices that the peoples of our continent made to ensure that, that intolerable insult to human dignity, the apartheid crime against humanity, became a thing of the past.

King Lewanika worthy to be honored and revered.
