The MK 60th Anniversary Committee in partnership with the Department of Military Veterans and Freedom Park will be commemorating the 60th Anniversary of MK.The event will be taking place on the 16 December 2021 at Freedom Park under the theme, “Commemorating the liberation struggle and the armed pillar that was part of the vehicle that ensured we achieve our Constitutional Democracy” 

The year 2021 marks sixty years since the formation of uMkhonto we Sizwe, a milestone in the formation of this armed wing. It is going to be a celebration of the  historical interventions made by the armed liberation forces and support thereof.  

uMkhonto we Sizwe was born out of a sense of the heavy responsibility that our history had thrust upon our people, and it was the people’s answer to the historical challenges from the racists rulers of South Africa. 

 Acting President, Mr David Mabuza will deliver the keynote address.

The Department’s will continue  to recognise and honour military veterans in life and remembering them in death.  


The event will take place as follows:
