Our Titan has Fallen! - Archbishop Desmond Tutu 26/12/2021

Freedom Park mourns the Loss of Archbishop Desmond Tutu. The world stopped as news of Archbishop Tutu’s death echoed globally, we in South Africa are shattered! Our hearts are broken as we silently sob for the man who was a Titan, Nobel Peace Prize winner and Champion of Human Rights.

A Nobel Peace Prize winner and an uncompromising adversary of apartheid, His Grace worked tirelessly, though non-violently, for its downfall. From the pavements of resistance to the pulpits of the world's great cathedrals and places of worship, and the prestigious setting of the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony, the Arch distinguished himself as a non-sectarian, inclusive champion of universal human rights.

His hard-hitting messages warmed grim protests, funerals, and marches. Tenacious and uncompromising when it came to the injustices of the poor and downtrodden, he was a formidable force, and apartheid leaders learned not to discount his uncanny talent for quoting apt scriptures to harness righteous support for change. Asked once how he wanted to be remembered, he told The Associated Press: He loved. He laughed. He cried. He was forgiven. He forgave. Greatly privileged.

On behalf of the CEO, Council, Management and Staff of Freedom Park our deepest condolences to his wife Mme Leah Tutu, his children, His Foundation, and friends. May his beautiful soul rest in Peace. You will never be forgotten!
