O.R. Tambo is well documented as a Champion of the emancipation of women. In this Year of O.R. Tambo, Freedom Park will focus on the role of women soldiers in the liberation struggle fondly named by OR Tambo as “Flowers of the Revolution” and their Angolan counterparts. In the preparation of celebrating the women in the liberations struggle, we plan to undertake a journey to Angola to retrace the route of these heroines. The first part of this project is to dialogue/interview a number of women now in South Africa who were part of the Flowers of the Revolution.
PAA is conducting a series of dialogues with women who fought in the struggle for the South African liberation, thus far Nomsa Dlamini, Susan Rabkin and Linda Mjekula have already participated in the dialogue, many more are still expected to participated in the near future.
