The Department of Basic Education hosted its annual iNkosi Albert Luthuli Oral History Awards Ceremony and Gala Dinner at Freedom Park on Sunday, 1 October 2017. 


The keynote address was delivered by the Deputy Minister of Basic Education, Mr ME Surty.  National adjudication of the 2017 competition that took place on 27 - 30 September 2017 at Park Lodge Hotel.

The Department of Education inaugurated the iNkosi Albert Luthuli Project in the year 2005 as part of its continued commitment to have the future generations participate in the commemoration of anniversaries of events that are of historical significance to our country. The learners are to celebrate and also reflect on the progress we as a nation have made in building a better and more united South Africa and strengthening our democracy. It forms part of the Department’s contribution in strengthening the teaching and learning of history in schools.
