Post Media Release: Healing Ceremony for the Families of the Life Esidimeni Tragedy, held at Freedom Park on 17 February 2018

Family members of about 144 Life Esidimeni tragedy converged at Freedom Park Saturday 17 February 2017, for a healing session ceremony. White doves were released as a symbol of the release of pain, healing and forgiveness. Reverend Moerane led a team of Interfaith leader’s in a prayer ceremony, wherein each one of them were afforded an opportunity to pray. 

The event was attended by Minister of Health Dr Aron Motswoaledi, Gauteng Province Premier Mr David Makhura, Gauteng MEC for Heath Dr Gwen Ramokgopa, Gauteng Province MEC for Social Development Ms Nandi Mayathula-Khoza, Freedom Park CEO Ms Jane Mufamadi.

Minister of Health Dr Motsoaledi, lit the candles and delivered a message of support. Premier Makhura delivered a message of hope to the families. MEC for Health Dr Ramokgopa rang the Green Bell.

In her welcome address, Jane Mufamadi, Freedom Park CEO said” we hope that we will all realise that this tragedy has brought the nation together and to many of us, lessons that should be learned and mistakes not to be repeated.”
