Exhumation of UDF freedom fighters at Mamelodi west cemetery

The exhumation of the remains of United Democratic Front (UDF) political activists from the Eastern and Western Cape provinces respectively. It took place on the 30th and 31st  May 2017 at Mamelodi cemetery. This exhumation  project is in line with the Gallows Exhumation Project that is led by the NPA (Missing Person’s Task Team: MPTT)and the Department of Justice (TRC Unit) together with Freedom Park which is task to specifically deal with the Spiritual repatriation”, while the MPTT deals with the exhumation and TRC unit is tasked to make arrangements and link all the stakeholders with families of the victims. Freedom Park is not only facilitating the implementation of spiritual repatriation during this process, but also extends its mandate by liaising with families to do further communication with them in getting permission and more information on the victims so that they could be honoured at the Wall of Names (WoN) at Freedom Park.
