Mabalastad Community Day
Hundreds of Mabalastad community members gathered at the Baphiring Community Centre on Saturday 13 January 2018 for the Annual Mabalastad Community Day. This day coincide with the date of birth of their traditional leader Kgosi H. M Mabalane. Freedom Park, Gift of the Givers, SABC Foundation, Business fraternity, the HM Mabalane Haven of Hope, Traditional leaders, Bikers Association and other organizations attended the event.
Stalls of exhibitors from various organizations shared information on education, health, heritage, indigenous knowledge system, social development etc. with guests and members of the community. Vendors of local arts items came in their numbers. Local youth brass band, traditional youth dancers, bikers and DJ’s, entertained the attendees.
Some organizations distributed a variety of gifts, such as school backs, food parcels etc, to members of the community. In his speech Kgosi Mabalane said “I am humbled and moved by the attendance, the generosity and the determination of so many organizations to community development initiatives”.
Freedom Park CEO Jane Mufamadi, lead her Outreach Team which disseminated information about Freedom Park as a national heritage destination for learners and the general public. In her message of support to Kgosi Mabalane and his community, Mufamadi stated that “community development initiatives like this one, contribute to the advancement of peace and love within the community and indeed to the advancement of social cohesion, nation building, and Reconcilliation for our nation.”
