Freedom Park mourns the loss of South Africa’s Nightingale, Ms Sibongile Khumalo, as shock and an incredible sadness engulfs the nation. We can never forget the concert that you held here at Freedom Park in 2009.
As we pay tribute to her….words fails us, we are shattered and heartbroken. We remember that we don’t see greatness like that very often and we will never see it again, so was Sibongile Khumalo, our imposing diva with the larger-than-life persona.
She contributed to South Africa’s jazz and opera industry with songs such as Thula mama, Sabela and Yakhalinkomo and carved an illustrious career for herself earning among many of her accolades, one being the order of Ikhamanga in Silver - in recognition of her contribution to the advancement within arts and culture.
Her death is a truly monumental loss. We will always remember that your unparalleled contribution earned a perpetual place in the hearts of our people. Time has snatched you away from us but you will remain immortal in a sense that the magic of your voice is left behind
In this moment of grief, our thoughts and prayers are with her family and the music fraternity.
