The abhorrent reality of femicide in South Africa is violent and disturbing.

As we conclud Women’s Month… nothing prepared South Africans for the violent and brutal murder of UCT student Uyinene Mrwetyana. As her death drew widespread outcry and condemnation and an online petition demanding justice with the #IAMNEXT campaign.

In the light of events taking this week, Freedom Park condemns the brutal killing of nineteen year old UCT student Uyinene Mrwetyana. She was murdered, raped and bludgeoned to death in a Post Office. # IAMNEXT brings home the message that women are not safe anywhere. We remain deeply distressed by the unacceptable levels of violence against women and the marginalised in South African society on a daily basis.

We as Freedom Park condemn the killings of women and children in South Africa.
