Media Release: Freedom Park Honours the Amakhosi from the Mpondo Kingdom

Freedom Park, a National Heritage Site, will honour the Mpondo Kings and Chiefs who played a role in the liberation struggle and in the colonial resistance.  The event will be held at Freedom Park Precinct in Pretoria, on 30 April 2021 from 10h00. The names of those amaMpondo kings and chiefs who will be honoured, are inscribed on Freedom Park,’s Wall of Names.

The event will include the unveiling of names and a wreath laying ceremony. The Amakhosi who will be honoured are King Faku, King Marhelane kaSigcau and Nkosi Ntsikayezwe Sigcau. The Royal Houses from the Mpondo Kingdom (iNyanda neQauka) and the representatives from the Municipalities in the Mpondo Kingdom and other traditional leaders from various parts of South Africa , are expected to attend. Speakers will include Freedom Park CEO Jane Mufamadi, Nkosi Sipho Mahlangu; Chairperson of the National House of Traditional Leaders will deliver a keynote address.
 
Freedom Park has always emphasized that amongst the heroes and heroines who are inscribed on the Wall of Names, traditional leaders across the country also take a center stage, because of the role they played in the liberation struggle and in the colonial resistance.
