In dedicating 5 December, a day Nelson Mandela passed on, to his memory, is to affirm his place in the South African historical narrative, and the world. Nelson Mandela Museum strives to promote the ideals of non-racialism, non-sexism, peace, unity human rights and democracy that Nelson Mandela championed right through his life. These are the ideals that he was prepared to die for.

Most importantly, Nelson Mandela museum council reminds the world that the struggle to achieve all the objectives of the liberation struggle is a daily struggle.  For the Nelson Mandela museum and Department of Arts and Culture, the passing on of the former President, 36 months ago, presents a profound opportunity and challenge to reposition itself (Nelson Mandela Museum) as a museum for Social Dialogue & Change, Knowledge Production and to encourage people of the world to live and preserve the Legacy and Values of Nelson Mandela.
