Under the theme, ‘Youth in an Intergenerational Society’ Freedom Park, a National Heritage Site in Pretoria, will host an intergenerational dialogue in memory of the heroic efforts of the June 1976 youth.  An intergenerational audience is expected to participate in the discourse. Speakers will amongst others include Seth Mazibuko from the June 16 Youth Development, Phineas Kutumela former teacher at Molopo Secondary School and Douglas Ngobeni COSAS spokesperson. The event will include a Wreath Laying ceremony.

In line with its mandate, of social cohesion, reconciliation and nation building, Freedom Park, a national heritage site, in partnership with Thobela FM, Munghana Lonene FM, Phalaphala FM, Ikwekwezi FM and Ligwalagwala FM and ZACR Registry (Silencing the Guns through Drumming) will commemorate Africa Day on 25 May 2022.  

The event will start with interfaith prayers and storytelling though drumming, followed by a dialogue on xenophobia vs Pan Africanism. The purpose of the dialogue is to amongst others, contribute to the Pan African Archives which is a knowledge production and repository within Freedom Park for public use.

A panellist of experts, some of them are social cohesion advocates, will play a pivotal role in the dialogue deliberations.  A plethora of stalls will exhibit African artifacts, fashion, dance, food, amongst others. Radio stations will broadcast some of their programmes live, from Freedom Park.

Africa Day is commemorated in the African continent on the 25 May 2022, as declared by the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) now called African Union (AU), with an objective to achieve greater unity and solidarity among the African countries and her people; and an aim to ensure that all Africans are aware of their human rights.
