As the nation celebrates National Heritage Day, under the theme “Celebrating the Legacy of Solomon Linda and South Africa’s Indigenous Music”; Entry is free of charge at Freedom Park, a national heritage site, in Pretoria.
As the country marks the 43rd Anniversary of the Congress of South African Students (COSAS), Freedom Park, together with the families of COSAS 4 from Kagiso, Mogale City, will on 22 September 2022, host a lecture to commemorate this event. The four students, namely Fanyana Nhlapho, Madikane Bimbo, Peter Matabane, and Sandisile Musi were killed in 1982, by the apartheid forces are the subjects of both the Public Lecture and the Exhibition to be officiated. The commemoration and Public Lecture is themed, Courageous Liberation for Social Justice, social cohesion, and nation building.
As we mark the 66th anniversary of the march by women of all races to the Union Buildings, to deliver a petition against the extension of pass laws for women. Freedom Park, in partnership with Mmamodiselle concepts, a creative youth incubator, will host a dialogue event to commemorate the role played by women in the struggle for democracy. The event is themed “Women Strengthening Democracy and Accountability” and will be held at Freedom Park 27 August 2022 at 10h00am.
In drawing Women’s Month to a close, the Department of Military Veterans (DMV) in partnership with Robben Island Museum (RIM) and Freedom Park (FP) is hosting the annual Imbokodo Lecture at Freedom Park in Gauteng, this coming Friday 26 August 2022.
