Freedom Park together with the Charlotte Maxeke Institute is delighted to host a Gala Dinner on the 9th April for the Department of International Relations Heads of Mission, in celebration of Freedom Month.  This Gala Dinner could not have been hosted at a more befitting site than at Freedom Park as we instill a sense of national pride in this icon of humanity and freedom and create an awareness that a site exists where those that died fighting for freedom and liberation in this country are being honoured.

Five brutal bullets pierced the skull;

Into  smitherines she is gunned down ;

Declared dead, buried and forgotten;

In a far flung land;

In the citadel of that brutal inhumanity;

Cloaked in the criminality;

of ' abominable civility;

Declared dead and forgotten; yet she lives;

She flows in the blood of millions of freedom lovers;

She inspires generation after generation;

34 years in, she lives on and and on.

March 21 is a day that most South Africans rather want to forget, but for many it serves as a reminder of the country's dark past, one which they hope never to slide back to. Despite the emotion and sadness that engulfs Human Rights Day, activists say it should never be forgotten. This is one of the ways to ensure that the people of South Africa are aware of their history and human rights as well as to ensure that such abuses never occur again.
